Bruadair has received many upgrades in her systems in preparation for an extended cruise. Below you will find descriptions and some photos of some of the projects we have completed over the past couple years. 03/02 - Built a new battery box under the aft berth to accommodate a larger house battery bank. 08/02 - We rebuilt the helmsman seat as the plywood core was rotted away, and sitting down was like sitting on a saturated sponge. 02/04 - Our first haul out for Bruadair for routine maintenance. Click for description of work done and some photos 03/04 - Replaced original pedestal guard with new Edson offset pedestal guard, and added a Navpod to house the remote VHF mic and autopilot control head. 03/04 - Replaced our two 35 watt solar panels with a new Kyrocera 120W panel 03/04 - Installed a fuel gauge for the diesel tank. None existed before. 05/04 - Built and installed a new teak propane deck box on the fore deck. 07/04 - Devised a method of secure the drawers under the pullman berth as well as the rest of the cabinet doors to prevent accidental opening in rough weather. 07/05/04 -Weekly log of what tasks we’ve accomplished in preparation for our departure this fall. 07/12/04 -Weekly log of what tasks we’ve accomplished in preparation for our departure this fall. 07/19/04 -Weekly log of what tasks we’ve accomplished in preparation for our departure this fall. Helmsman Seat Cushion - Needed some cushioning under our butts for those long stays at the helm, take a look at David’s ingenious solution. 07/26/04 -Weekly log of what tasks we’ve accomplished in preparation for our departure this fall. Not a whole lot was done this week. 08/02/04 -Weekly log of what tasks we’ve accomplished in preparation for our departure this fall. 08/09/04 -Weekly log of what tasks we’ve accomplished in preparation for our departure this fall. 08/16/04 -Weekly log of what tasks we’ve accomplished in preparation for our departure this fall. 08/23/04 - Weekly log of more projects we’ve completed this week in preparation for our departure in two months 08/30/04 - Weekly log of a few small projects done this week. Only 8 weeks left. 09/06/04 - There is no Weekly log for this week. David and I didn’t do anything on Bruadair this week. I spent the week installing an entertainment system on a friends boat, and David’s sister and her family came down for a couple of days. It was great to see Suzanne and her family, haven’t seen them for two years. 09/13/04 - Weekly log of more small projects that are done. Still waiting on our new mainsail, hope it’s ready as we’re getting ready to leave in a few days for our shakedown cruise. 09/20/04 - This Week’s Log is a few days early. As we are planning on leaving in the next day or two for our shakedown cruise I thought I would post this weeks’ log as all the work we’re going to do this week is now done. We’re hoping to leave tomorrow for our shakedown, but with tropical storm Ivan approaching we might have to delay our departure a day or two. Watermaker - Details and pictures of the new Pur 40E watermaker installation. 10/04/04 - First weekly log since our short shakedown cruise. Got a lot done this week including some large projects and some small but very important pre-departure tasks. 10/11/04 - It doesn’t seem like there’s a lot left to do, but the days are filled with small projects. The list is about done, but when sitting on the boat it’s amazing how many more things come to mind. This Week’s Log is mostly things that came to mind while working on something else and wasn’t originally on the list. 10/18/04 - Another weekly log, one of the last few to be posted before leaving in a couple of weeks. I’m really glad we started early as it’s been real nice not having to feel rushed to get anything done. We’ve also enjoyed taking time off between projects to visit with our friends. Special Thanks - A page dedicated to saying thanks to the many people we have met that have helped us in one way or another in getting ready for our cruise. I know that there are some that I forgot to mention so I apologize in advance for my memory lapse. 10/25/04 - This week’s log is pretty short. I spent most of the week in bed sick (feeling better now), and helped some friends with their boat. David’s family was in town this weekend, mine start to arrive on Tuesday. 11/01/04 - This is our last weekly log prior to departure. It’s been posted early as our bon voyage party is day after tomorrow. Be sure to check out the Ship’s Log in a week or so to see how the party went. We’ll be posting updates on our travels on the Ship’s Log as well. 01/30/05 - We had a small oil leak that, though it wasn’t critical, was annoying and we wanted to get it fixed before leaving the US. This page explains the details of changing the rear main seal on our Yanmar 3QM30F with some photos.
