Ocean-Pro - a great web site with information regarding advanced offshore weather, instruction, deliveries and other resources. Maya Paradise - An excellent and informative site about the Rio Dulce in Guatemala. Includes information for boaters as well as detailed information about the area. The best site of it’s kind. Hans Christian Owners Association - members web sites, pictures, message board, and more Cruisenews - Excellent source of boating and cruising links Lighthouse Financing - Peter and Martha were great people to do business with when financing and refinancing our boat. Lots of knowledge and easy to work with Mockingbird Marine - Casey and his staff have been have been instrumental in helping us get our boat ready for our cruise (yes, there are somethings we can’t do). They are the most honest and professional people in the area, and we couldn’t think of anyone else to do business with! Tell them hi for us if you happen to call them. 281-326-2250 Stix-n-Rig’n - Kevin Wilson did an awesome job on our rigging issues. Another one of the few guys around the lake that was at the boat when he said he would be, and the work done was top notch, and no surprises on the bill. If you need some rigging work done, call him at 281-334-7849. Drake Epple - We had a new survey completed 10/12/04 by Drake, and couldn’t have been more impressed with his services and professionalism. He comes highly recommended. Armadillo Suites - Not really a marine source, but if you’re ever in Guatemala City this is a great place to stay, with 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments and awesome service.
Marine Equipment
Katadyn - Manufacturers of water makers. We have their 40E model. The customer service from this company has been one of the best we have experienced. Be sure to say hi to DeeDee for us! Cruzpro - Makes a full line of marine electronics and digital displays for monitoring electrical and engine performance. Navpod - Manufactures housing units for mounting electronics. Excellent customer service. Standard Horizon - Marine electronics including VHF, GPS Icom - Leader in marine communications including VHF and SSB Everfair - Makers of the Fourwinds and Red Baron wind generators JRC - Marine electronics, we have the 1800CP color radar/chartplotter. We’ve been very happy with this unit and technical support has been top notch. Furuno - Marine electronics, including radar, fish finders, and chart plotters Garhauer - Excellent stainless steel products. Great work, but follow up on their service (delivery time can take a while) Kato Marine - We bought their dingy davits. There service was excellent during the purchasing process, but once they got our money their service went downhill. One of the plastic pieces that holds the davits to the stern rail broke within 6 months. When I called they said it would cost another $60 plus shipping because we must have installed it wrong and that it could no way be their fault. It’s sad when a company won’t take ownership for their products, especially when it breaks in less than a year with such little use. I would not do business with them again. (This link has been removed due to lack of product support. Updated 12/14/04 - There has been a tremendous amount of e-mails coming in asking if we ever got Kato Marine to remedy this issue. The answer is no. They still insist that their product could not have been defective and still insist that we must pay for a new plastic piece. It’s a shame that a company is willing to take a large amount of money from a customer then turn around and risk loosing the same customer’s business over a small plastic piece. I guess some companies don’t need repeat business to keep going.
