Clothing Donation

When Damon’s parents came down for their visit they brought with them a lot of clothes and school supplies that were donated by friends. Some money was also donated which was used in Guatemala to purchase more clothes, shoes and even a few soccer balls. With additional clothing donations by various boaters in the marina we headed out to one of the remote villages in need and handed out all we had. Mike and Karen from the Ray of Hope Mission helped to coordinate the process and Cherri from s/v Nameste came with us to help pass things out. Most of the villagers had to walk over an hour in knee deep mud to meet us on the river bank, our trip took us 45 minutes up a small river. At the day’s end we were all very happy. Many thanks to all of you who helped in donations, we hope to do this again!

Heading up the River

Cattle ranchers along the banks of the river

Damon’s parents, Kathie and Steve

Our trip took us 45 minutes up the river

Men fixing a launcha along the river

Our first visitors from the village were waiting for us

Slowly, more children came to see what we had

And more came

Most everyone from the village walked over an hour in knee deep mud to get here

And a few came by horse

Everything was handed out from the launcha

More villagers coming in from the jungle

And the crowd builds

Everyone waited patiently for their turn

Most of the kids were eager to have their picture taken

This one couldn’t get enough time in front of the camera

All the kids left with smiles

And my muddy feet walking around taking pictures, should have worn boots
